27ª Vernasca Silver Flag

Once again, we make our way to the marvelous Vernasca Silver Flag for its 27th edition. Setting off from Milan with Pablo, Michele, and Domi (all experts in Italian automobiles), we enjoyed an exceptional day. This year, the event was sponsored by Maserati, allowing us to witness unique and active specimens.

Vernasca Silver Flag is an annual classic car event held in the town of Vernasca, in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It is a competition that celebrates the passion for historic automobiles and brings together enthusiasts from around the world. The event focuses on classic and vintage sports cars, ranging from antique vehicles to racing cars from the 1920s to the 1970s. During Vernasca Silver Flag, participants have the opportunity to exhibit their cars, compete in a special route, and socialize with other classic vehicle lovers.

The route of Vernasca Silver Flag takes place on the picturesque hills and roads of the region, providing participants with an exciting and challenging experience. In addition to the on-road competition, the event also features car exhibitions, elegance contests, and other activities related to the world of classic motors.

Vernasca Silver Flag has become a highly popular event, attracting a large number of participants and spectators each year. It is a unique opportunity to admire historic vehicles in action and enjoy the shared passion for classic car racing.

From 1953 to 1972, the Automobile Club of Piacenza (CPAE) organized 17 editions of the uphill speed race from Castell'Arquato to Vernasca. The event was initially created as a minor provincial competition.

The 8.9 km uphill route was developed with different characteristics, featuring a 5 km straight road in the first part, followed by 34 curves in the final section, most of which were tight turns. In the first edition, with 40 participants, Alfa Romeo took part with the driver Consalvo, driving a splendid 3000CM. Since 1994, CPAE has organized a recreation of the race with a regularity contest, the main event for Piacenza and its surrounding enthusiasts who wish to compete against the clock. Since 1996, they have also started organizing the Vernasca Silver Flag, following the same route on a closed road from the past, but with a dynamic competition formula focused on preservation and restoration of racing cars.

We hope the organization continues to maintain the current informal, authentic, and simple format in the future!
